THE THEATRE FACULTY OF THE ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS IN BRATISLAVA (DF VŠMU) OFFERS FOLLOWING TYPES OF STUDY FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

STANDARD STUDY – Bachelor, Master and ArtD/PhD level at AFAD

BA level: (8 semesters); MA level (4 semesters); doctoral level (min. 6 semesters)

Standard study at DF VŠMU is offered only in Slovak. During the Admission Exam and at all exams throughout the study, a good command of Slovak in written and spoken form is required. Applicants for the Bachelor Degree Programme can request an Admission Exam fully conducted in Slovak. The Admission Exams consist of an interview, as well as written and practical test and auditions.

Successful students are awarded a Diploma and the title “Bachelor of Arts” BA. “Master of Art” MA, “artis doctor” ArtD., and “philosophiae doctor” PhD. In order to be accepted, the applicant must pass a highly demanding and competitive Admission Exam based on creative artistic work carried out during the examination. The application procedure for students wishing to study at DF VŠMU varies according to the chosen level of study.

EXCHANGE MOBILITY – STUDY UNDER THE ERASMUS+ OR CEEPUS PROGRAMMES, AND ON THE BASIS OF A BILATERAL COOPERATION WITH PARTNER INSTITUTIONS

Mobility – the exchange stay at DF VŠMU is offered for the duration of one or two semesters. For students visiting within the framework of the programmes Erasmus +, CEEPUS and the Bilateral Agreement Programme cooperation with partner institutions, the study is free of charge. However, students may be asked to cover specific expenses associated with extra costs of administration procedures and support materials. Exchange students visiting within the framework of the Erasmus +, CEEPUS and the Bilateral Agreement programmes are not expected to pay tuition fees, as they pay fees to their home institution.


 

THE INTERNATIONAL OFFICE (IC)

provides institutional coordination for Erasmus+ by managing its overall organisational, administrative and financial agenda. The IC organises and manages selections of student internships abroad not only within the Erasmus+ programme, but also on the basis of bilateral agreements. The office coordinates study stays of foreign students at VŠMU, as well as scholarships and fellowships of VŠMU students abroad. It provides methodical and practical background for VŠMU staff mobilities/teaching and training, as well as for accepting foreign nationals (visitors, teachers, researchers) for internships, fellowships and other academic mobilities at VŠMU.

COURSE OF SLOVAK LANGUAGE FOR INCOMING STUDENTS

The incoming students have the possibility to follow the Slovak language course (2 hours per week with 2 ECTS). This course provides students with a grounding in the basic structures of Slovak in order to communicate at a basic level in essential social and survival situations in our country.

ECTS

In Slovakia, the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) was introduced in 2002 for all levels and forms of higher education study. VŠMU and its faculties make endeavours to facilitate planning, delivery and evaluation of study programmes and student mobility. Prior to the mobility, all of the parties involved-the student, the sending institution and the receiving institution-sign the Learning Agreement which contains all educational components and number of credits to be gained.

Exchange students are awarded with their credits for the selected subjects and courses accomplished in full length.

Theatre Faculty provides a Transcript of Records to all mobile students at the end of their period of study. This document formally certifies the work completed, the credits awarded and the local grades received during the mobility period.


 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Exchange students are accepted only from those partner institutions the VŠMU has  signed the inter-institutional agreement in the context of Erasmus+, CEEPUS and Bilateral Agreement Programme. Students wishing to apply for a study period must submit completed and signed application forms to the VŠMU International Office. Application procedure starts at your home institution, please contact your exchange officer.

Please note that no applications can be accepted after the deadline: April, the 30th for the Winter term and October, the 31st for the Summer term.

Applications are considered complete when all the forms, portfolio and letter of intent are included.


 

INSURANCE, PASSPORT, VISA

You have the possibility to pay for your health insurance in Slovakia, however, before leaving your home country, you are advised to make arrangements concerning your health insurance while abroad. You are strongly advised to ensure you have a valid passport or ID card (for EU countries) and any other necessary travel documents or visas prior to travelling to Slovakia. Please, request information at the Slovak Consulate Office in your home country. Some students (from non-EU countries) may be required to hold a Letter of Invitation from VŠMU in order to proceed with their visa application process. If this applies to you, please contact the International Office at VŠMU as soon as possible. Please note that the visa procedure in some countries may take a longer time. Processing of the application for the necessary permit may take several months and a number of documents will be required. VŠMU will not register any student arriving in the Slovak Republic without the appropriate permit.


 

TEMPORARY STAY PERMIT

Students from non-EU countries who come for a study stay in the Slovak Republic longer than 90 days must to obtain their Permit for Temporary Stay in the Slovak Republic (in short Temporary Stay Permit) prior to departing from their home country. In case their length of stay in Slovakia is less than 90 days, the Temporary Stay Permit is not required. All potential foreign students are advised to contact the consular section of the diplomatic mission (embassy) of the Slovak Republic in their home country as soon as they receive their Letter of Acceptance.


 

ACCOMMODATION

All exchange students must inform the International Office at VŠMU whether they require assistance in finding accommodation at the Student Dormitory. However, due to the limited capacity of rooms, VŠMU cannot guarantee your accommodation. You will be informed about your reservation of accommodation in advance by the exchange mobility coordinator.

Please note that you need to pay for your reserved accommodation upon your arrival for the full noticed period.

Finding your own accommodation

VŠMU does not provide assistance in finding individual accommodation. You may contact the renting agencies in Bratislava via Internet. Please note, the price for accommodation in private apartments may be significantly higher than at a student dormitory.
