THEATRICAL SCENERY PRODUCTION

Teachers:
doc. Ing. Viliam Gruska,
Mgr. art. Mária Zubajová

Stage designers are trained to become practitioners capable of creating production and technical documentation and mock-ups of their own and other designs for theatre, film, television, advertising and exhibition design. The course enhances the students’ spatial imagination and acquaints them with the technical equipment of theatres and its use. The students are introduced to the basics of orthogonal depiction of simple objects made of wood and metal, and to the principles of preparing documentation in drawings with focus on theatrical scenery. Wood is understood as an elementary material, and they learn about its sources, processing, use, behaviour and treatment. They are encouraged to search in the real environment and literature for the architectural elements and their arrangement with respect to materials, historical periods, social environments: fences – doors – gates – sketches in 1:50 scale. The students make drawings after a sketch or photograph of the chair used for its production.
They focus on and provide the production documentation of the element after reality – the entrance gate. The students find information in literature and make a list of all basic elements of stairs, staircases and balustrades with respect to different materials, historical periods and social environments.

They are taught how to apply patina, to create a finish. They produce the study of portrait after a model or cast; transformation of form. Assigned themes correspond to themes of SCENOGRAPHIC STUDIO and trace connections between objects and sculpture.

PRACTICAL PROJECTS

Teachers:
PROF. JOZEF CILLER,
PROF. PETER ČANECKÝ,
MGR. ART. ING. ARCH. JÁN PTAČIN, ARTD.

Artistic activities of the Theatre Faculty take place within the educational process and various artistic projects. The Theatre Faculty annually produces between 10 and 16 plays or alternative theatre productions and presents them in its theatre studio – Lab Theatre of the Academy of Performing Arts.

The students produce their own costumes and theatrical scenery and make props/accessories for a theatre performance, a film or an academic assignment. The mastery of a costume design, technical documentation and its production prepares the students for practice in each area, and simulates conditions of professional life.

Biela noc 2021

Biela noc 2021
